CHORUS (x2)

CHORUS (x2)

Mr. President, here, today, I speak with you
in my name and the name of all people who live in misery.
It's 2011 and there's still a man who's dying of hunger.
He wants to work to survive, but his voice is not heard!
Go out into the street and see [how] people have become animals.
Look at the police with batons. Thwack-thwack-thwack! They don't care!
There is still no one to tell them the word "stop."
Even the law that's in the constitution, put it in water and drink it [i.e., it's worthless]
Every day I hear of someone prosecuted for a fake offense
even if the official knows that he is an honest citizen.
I see police goons beat women who wear headscarves.
Would you accept that for your daughter? I know my words make the eye weep.
I know you're still a father. You would not accept evil being done to your children.
Alors! This is a message from one of your children
who is speaking with you about suffering. We are living like dogs!
Half of the people are living in humiliation and have tasted from the cup of suffering.

CHORUS (x2)
Mr. President, your people are dead. So many people are eating from the garbage.
There, you see what's happening in the country!
Miseries are everywhere and people haven't found anywhere to sleep.
I speak here in name of the people who were wronged and crushed beneath the feet [of the powerful].

Mr. President, you told me to speak without fear.
I spoke here but I knew that my end would be palms [i.e., slaps and beatings].
I see so much injustice. That's why I chose to speak out
even though many people told me that my end will be execution.
But how long [must] the Tunisian live in illusions?
Where is freedom of expression? I saw that it was [only] words.
They named Tunisia "the Green." Mr. President, you can see
today that Tunis has become a desert that's divided into two sides.
They steal in broad daylight, confiscate property, and own the land.
[Even] without me naming them, you know who they are!
So much money was pledged for projects and infrastructure:
schools, hospitals, buildings, and improvements.
But the sons of bitches stuffed [their] pot-bellies with the people's money.
They stole, robbed, dismembered, kidnapped and would not give up the seats [of power].
I know there are many words in the people's hearts that don't reach you.
If the situation weren't unjust, I would not be speaking out today.

CHORUS (x2)
Mr. President, your people are dead. So many people are eating from the garbage.
There, you see what's happening in the country!
Miseries are everywhere and people haven't found anywhere to sleep.
I speak here in name of the people who were wronged and crushed beneath the feet [of the powerful].

Okay. The voice of the nation. El Général. 2011:
The same situation. The same problems and the same suffering.
Mr. President...Mr. President...
Mr. President!

CHORUS (x2)
Mr. President, your people are dead. So many people are eating from the garbage.
There, you see what's happening in the country!
Miseries are everywhere and people haven't found anywhere to sleep.
I speak here in name of the people who were wronged and crushed beneath the feet [of the powerful].

May the Libyan woman have unity
so that whole world may know her value and what she has given to the revolution.
No, we have not forgotten you.
May you be dear to God. May God preserve you and strengthen you. God bless you.

Let me begin with a big greeting to the mothers of the martyrs
whose blood was in the freedom __________ loved ones.
______________ among the women and the men,
*I will not neglect them - any of them - *for as long as I live.
Come to think of it, I must say a word to the female mujahideen.
Lifting the people's spirits is the *least* that they've done.
Don't forget our women. Remember the female journalists.
*_________ their struggle, then they have _______________*
*From the little girl and the old lady, Libyans are a patient people.
*The lady prays to the Prophet and she says it.*
*And what you said is not what she wants to say,*
*and if she didn't give us what she gave, our country would never improve or make progress.*
Because she participates in the discussion and she aids the revolutionary fighters,
*the world is enlightened about how all Libyans are free.
We're united. Our grief *is never lost.
When we pray for the martyrs, we all have the same tears.

CHORUS (x2)
To the Libyan woman: no one can know your effort and your patience.
You take me with your heart all day and all night.
I want to tell you *________________________,
from the effort that you put forth, Ms. Revolution!

When you _______ *a revolutionary perhaps in your mind there is a ______
There's one girl named Rahma and her story isn't ordinary.
She saw him one day among* the revolutionaries in Tripoli.
*He tells her his story - as he told me - and she told him,* "Don't be afraid."
*She still watches the news in the midst of the demonstrations.
*And she continues to spread the news even while the communication networks are cut.*
*She does interviews with satellite channels and inspires journalists' words.
I swear that you will always bring honor to the Libyan people.
And the courage of our Libyan daughters comes from your bravery.
*_______ how much from the door of the country that comes after you.
By God, they see how she's not afraid of bullets.
She *speaks her mind bravely even in front of the secret police's informants.
They kidnap her and imprison her *as part of their schemes and dirty tricks.
Yet even after that, she is strengthened by the grace of God and by the great struggle.
This Libyan woman - what more could anyone ever want her to do
if he truly understands her value? *God is what inspires her.

CHORUS (x2)
To the Libyan woman: no one can know your effort and your patience.
You take me with your heart all day and all night.
I want to tell you *________________________,
from the effort that you put forth, Ms. Revolution!

Om Kalthoum - Oh Night of Eidام كلثوم - يا ليلة العيدYa Leilat el Eid

The song "Ya Laylat al-`Eid" celebrates the end of the month of Ramadan and the beginning of the celebration (Eid means holiday/celebration) that follows. Laylat al-`Eid is the celebration that takes place after sunset on the last day of Ramadan, meaning the last day of fast is finished.

The last verse can be seen as separate from the song since it is a nationalist expression and not related really to the feelings surrounding Eid. It is specific to Egypt in this case, and since this song has spread throughout the Arab world, there are an alternate versions referring for example to the Tigris الدجلة to make the song unique to Iraq. Other verses can also appear in other versions.

The song centers on the concept/feeling of انس (ons), which can translate as "delight" or "togetherness" or "a friendly atmosphere." It is exactly the feeling that one gets when all the family and friends gather to celebrate a holiday or maybe a wedding. We don't have an exact word for this in English though certainly the feeling exists. Thus, the general sentiment of the song is one of togetherness and joy.

Oum Kalsoum - Oh Night of Eid

Oh (Night of) Eid, you've delighted us and renewed our hope

Oh Eid, your (crescent) moon has appeared before our eyes

It filled us with happiness and we sang

And we said that happiness/fortune will come to us

Upon your arrival, oh Night of Eid

You've brought all the close friends back together

And the cup has passed among the companions (here nudaman should be a plural of nadim "drinking companion" or "close friend")

And the birds are singing in the trees to greet the dawn

Oh Night of Eid

As my beloved's ship sails, my soul travels on the wind

Tell him, my dear (literally, my pretty), it's early

Sleep is forbidden (haram) on the Night of Eid

Oh Nile, your waters are sweet

You spread light throughout the fields

May you live long and prosper, oh Nile

And enjoy many Nights of Eid

General Tantawi, Your Excellency, how are you? How's everything going with you?
*I'm ready for your plans to divide the people and your schemes.*
[The people] demand what they demanded from the outset
and no one among us understands why we still haven't gotten our rights.
We demand what you yourself say is not forbidden,
and as long as you don't implement our demands, our words are still not heard.
And therefore we'll raise our voice because we'll MAKE you hear it.
We'll say with the loudest voice, "If you don't hear us, we we'll do it again!" [i.e., We'll overthrow you, too!"]

Your Majesty, we won't be laughed at again
because we learned to not be silent.
Your Excellency, what happened before will happen again
if our demands are not implemented.

And what we did once is easy to do again.
*You see your hands yourself. You turn over your palm for a few seconds.*
Take care that you *_____________ and put it in your head:
If you don't do your duty, you will face the people and they will stand up to you!

The blood of my brothers is so expensive and precious, O Tantawi,
and we will NOT be threatened.
What happened before will happen again, O Tantawi,
if our demands are not implemented.

The blood of my brothers is so expensive, so precious, O Tantawi.
And we will NOT be threatened.
And what happened before can happen again
if our demands are not implemented.

Your Excellency General Tantawi, were are the trials?
Where are rights of the masses and where are the rights of those who died?
Where are the rights of this country that was plundered for years in silence?
Where are the rights of the martyr who was oppressed until his death?
Your Excellency General Tantawi, the people are having their throats slit,
yet you don't care and your lies are laid bare.
Devouring the people's strength and _____* imagining his lies.
I'm not scared of you because my heart is a tank!
It's in the mind of anyone that my rights will not be taken away.
The good ______ overthrows [the government] for real! And my rights...I will seize them!
_______________* the words that _________ and plump*
I want to see these actions - my rights aren't gift for you to bestow!

And what happened before will happen again
if our demands are not implemented.

The blood of my brothers is so expensive and precious, O Tantawi,
and we will NOT be threatened.
And what happened before will happen again
if our demands are not implemented.

_____You know me. I always tell it like it is.
Muammar is not theirs - the Qadadfa are faithful.
This is 100%. His grandparents were Jews.
However, he is more evil than Pharaoh and his soldiers.
The people have had their say. You have seen their rage.
The curse of megalomania is behind his importation of mercenaries.
The murder of his own people - the Libyan will not accept it.
The blood is reaching [people's] knees on 16th Street.
They threatened us before with an enormous number of deaths.
There is no fear of death [even] while they are raping families.
Revenge against Gaddafi, for me, is something compulsory.
In my mind, I defend the Arab and the [Amazigh] Nafusi.
Sons of my country, for God's sake, listen to me well.
If you want to divide us like al-Geeda, you will get nowhere, for we don't have time for this.
God willing, one whose last name is al-Gaddafi [i.e., a member of the Gadadfa tribe] is welcome to fight with us,
so be careful about what you say when you want to join us.
The man from Sirte is our brother. What can you blame him for?
Fitna [i.e. strife within the community] came to us only from the government.
Someone who behaves wisely will not wrong his brother.
The spies are well-known, not far away, and we know who they are.
they're driving around the streets with weapons. He'll ask, "why?"
And not only that, they've begun to take the youth from their neighborhoods [i.e. from their homes].
They enter the hospitals in order to kill the wounded.
This is something they're big on - they are afflicted [with madness].
They don't know Islam or homeland. They are devils
who kill the innocent, as they did in Abu Sleem.
Through all these years their have become faces well-known.
Soon, they will taste the rage of millions.

These are the dogs who eat dogs, who brought them?
Khamis [al-Gaddafi] is the spawn Devil. Look at what drives them!
________________________ bribery and drunkenness
and their leader's evil. What does the soldier do?
They remove their conscience[s] from them, so that they will do what [Gaddafi] wants.
And whoever refuses the orders - they will certainly burn him [to death].
I mean, these are official words - no exaggeration.
What you consider to be impossible is a confirmed fact.
Among the garbage - this news isn't new. We have known it
and now you see the pictures. Even sheep are killed.
These people have lost [their] humanity and they kill the people.
Their God is Gaddafi, so their anger is turned against the people.
They told you that those who don't want Muammar should die,
so imagine what those who follow the tyrant imagine.
It doesn't matter to them. When they come into a home,
these evildoers will kill the elderly and the young.
This is not a joke, we are fighting the monsters of Satan.
Gaddafi's brigades are the armies of Satan.
Those who say "no" don't understand Satan.
[When he's in Hell], Gaddafi will be giving lessons to Satan!
Like his spawn who were brought up in the nest of evil.
Your turn is coming, Saif [al-Islam al-Gaddafi], go drink the oceans' water!
The ocean you spoke of, who did you think owns it?
You know how to blame. God willing, you will know how to float.
You pretend that you know what's happening. We only want one thing.
The whole Libyan people want to ride the "Taxi Jdayda." [i.e., all anti-Gaddafi Libyans are taking hallucinogenic drugs, as Gaddafi's spokesmen allege]
"So, Hmaida, should we rush Bab Aziziya?"
"Yeah, it's cool. Just leave me the drugs and everything'll be perfect!"

The past was the time of surrender__________.
Let the Libyan people show you who the rats are,
who the cowards who want _________ are,
I mean who the foul one whom we curse everywhere [really] is,
who the henchman who told us we live in security [really] is.
I want [to know], all this time, where human rights have been? Where?
In the days when I was fighting with my tongue [i.e., with my words],
how many times did I say al-Geeda [i.e. Gaddafi] has been fighting Islam?
And I heard "obedience to the ruler" - Yes, but not Muammar!
We all know that he knows nothing except destruction.
Dark will be the days of the disgusting creatures who stand behind him,
like those who dip themselves in shit.
Bring the bleach! I want to cleanse the city
from the likes of those who worship Muammar, God curse [his religion].
Did I say it or not? I have the words of [real] men.
Speaking the truth to a godless ruler is among the best of deeds.
There are 42 reasons, not just from me.
What? We are the ones who requested the No Fly Zone in the sky.
I have a message to those from outside who don't want [the No Fly Zone]:
The oil that's in our country now - you won't touch it!
Back out of it, you conspiracy theorists!
There are wars in Libya, not only demonstrations.
Whoever did not stand with us: it's best for him to shut his mouth.
Even before we revolted, the people were living in misery [lit. merde, French for "shit"]
and you wouldn't say a word! Or you believed his words
when he swore allegiance to the Americans and pretended to be fighting Osama.
Do you think we don't understand? The Libyan people are conscious.
Whoever claims to "enlighten" us - we'll give it to him with our boots.
I'd like to speak more politely, but I don't have time for the vain peacocks [i.e., fools]
who think they understand but who understand nothing.
Better for him to shut his mouth and stay in his place.
Either stay out of it, or stand by us.
For anyone who hadn't heard before: we don't accept colonialism.
We are the grandchildren of Ramadan al-Swehli and Omar al-Mukhtar.
They'll occupy their eyes. This is the flag of independence,
a sign that we refuse any attempt at exploitation.
Listen, son, the Libyans' madness is well-known
from the desert to the ocean to the mountains.
We are not a generation, we are generations.
Return to history if you want convincing - or come and try us.
Our women - none are stronger than them.
On their effort, their honor, Libya lives.
In Libya the mothers raise men
who stand and pray and then fight the devil.
Their weapons are Islam, faith, the Quran
while Gaddafi's forces are the Devil's worshippers.
You can't even say "shame on" the crimes that that commit.
There is only one language that they respect.
_________ don't even know how to bury our dead - no!
And they rape our daughters and our sisters.
Patience, Iman [al-Obeidi]. Victory, God willing, is near.
This, for me, is as certain as my blessings of loved ones.
We will catch the Colonel by his tail and then he will see.
I will be there, and God willing all will be well, my family.
If you revolt, you must be on drugs.
Long ago, I warned them clearly [??].
Tripoli, Tobruk, Benghazi, Misrata.
Get on the boats! Flee to Malta!
That was two years ago, I see it as old.
Ibn Thabit - download, on the net, the song named "Deema" ["Forever"].
Gaddafi, where are are? Just leave it between me and you.
I don't want you to die until you see the rebels with your own eyes.
After that, I want you, "The One Eagle," [a Gaddafi honorific] to raise your hands.
What, you want to fly? Yes, "keep on challenging, keep on."  [a Gaddafi propaganda slogan]
The day you die will be a new holiday
and in Hell you will be the fuel
with your sons and the creatures who pretend to love you.
For 42 years after you're dead we'll curse you.
After we've seen what you've done.
your day will come and it will be darker than black.
I've said it before but let me repeat it once again:
the mujahideen are on the way and victory is near, by God.
Even without weapons the Libyan people have shoulders.
Kill ten of us or even ten thousand.
Even the religious scholars have made your beheading legal.
And I, by God, declare the beheading of [your] spies to be legal.

Libya is the story of knights and men - you see them everywhere!
Libya is the nation of Quran memorizers. Wherever you go, you hear the call to prayer.
Libya has [many] peoples and tribes but they [all] raise the same flag.
Libya has a bright future, a future you couldn't have imagined in your dreams.

If you wonder about Gaddafi, know that his days are numbered.
He wants to sow fitna [strife among the Islamic community] but he doesn't have the means.
No regionalism! No racism! No tribalism!
Here, I'll make it clear for you in the Amazighi language:

***Tamazight, line 1***
***Tamazight, line 2***
***Tamazight, line 3***
***Tamazight, line 4***
***Tamazight, line 5***
***Tamazight, line 6***

We have different looks and different colors but we are all Libyans
and whoever insults one among us insults millions.
He says there are no Amazigh when they have lived here for years.
A quick question: where are these words from then?

***Tamazight, line 7***
***Tamazight, line 8***

Libya is the story of knights and men - you see them everywhere!
Libya is the nation of Quran memorizers. Wherever you go, you hear the call to prayer.
Libya has [many] peoples and tribes but they [all] raise the same flag.
Libya has a bright future, a future you couldn't have imagined in your dreams.

If we can only be rid of the The Geeda (Gaddafi), I said this long ago
and purify the land of the Saad-Sheen (spies) who are like rats [i.e., everywhere].
*_______________?
Just knock twice on the door of his headquarters - they won't welcome you!
But it's fine. We'll scatter them and bring them in afterwards.
And Libya, as it once was, will return to being the apple of our eyes.
The 2000 kilometers along the ocean is the property of the Libyan people,
and if you don't like it, Saif, you can answer to the millions.
Those who are with you are disbelievers who worship the tyrant.
We will bring them in one by one, from Kufra to Nalut.
No crime will pass us by [i.e., will be forgotten] - it's not far off!
And we will make you pay - this is certain!
Zawiya and Zuwara: we will rebuild them
and help is coming from Tarhuna and Bani Walid.
The 1st of September [the day Gaddafi came to power in 1969], which you called the Eid,
in Tripoli that street [named after that date] will be renamed Martyr's Street.

The nation has united once again, God be praised.
Didn't we say the blood of martyrs will not go in vain?
Now the sweetest days, God willing, are what comes next.
We will camp out for 42 years.
Couscous, Burdeem, Bakbuki, Bazeen (Libyan food).
We will serve you a list of dishes longer than limousines.
God be with loved ones. O martyrs, don't be afraid!
We don't forget that we have ten thousand Mohammad Nabbous-es.
Their children are not orphans, consider it over.
You will just knock [on any door] if you are missing something.
These words I have heard more than once,
as many times as I heard, "Gaddafi, get out of here!"
This is an important responsibility that is incumbent upon us.
There is nothing called "too much."
We accept what God has written for us.
God be praised for the goodness there is within us.

Benghazi!
I'm a Tarhouni [a native of Tarhouna], but the mood is great over there [in Benghazi].
And if you don't like it, I don't care. I'm content.

Benghazi, O Benghazi, you're always on my mind.
It's impossible for me to forget her and I hope she doesn't forget me.
You know the city, you see her sons - always "crazy" [amped or excited].
They have their problems and they're still good people.

We all love our country. Among Libyans there is no difference.
I cannot hide my great love for the capital of the east.
I get up from daybreak, I can't wait.
A holiday from Tarhouna: twelve hours to Benghazi.
If the car breaks down on the road, I'll walk the rest of the way.
Whatever the people say about Benghazi, I'm content.
They said, "anger has been turned on them," but my Lord is the judge.
I would respond to you now but I don't have the time.
Because the police who arrested me said come to Sirtee [a Benghazi neighborhood].
It looks like he didn't like my license plate or the picture on my T-shirt.
My friend in Budeima invited me to come over.
They call me Tarhouni, but my friends are his friends.
And the gang in Luhaisha offered me hashish.
I don't mean drugs, I mean a glass of tea [hashish also means tea leaves]
even if they have no money. I have people in Salmani.
They don't have bazeen [a Libyan dish] but they made it for me [anyway]
because the people in Benghazi are always generous.
If you know, you know what I mean: we are all Libyans.
I don't need to flatter. I'm not [saying this] without cause.
I've never met anyone in Benghazi who closed the door against me.

Benghazi, O Benghazi, you're always on my mind.
It's impossible for me to forget her and I hope she doesn't forget me.
You know the city, you see her sons - always "crazy" [amped].
They have their problems and they're still good people.

The men in Benghazi are the definition of fired up.
The roof is on fire. Really! The they burned the embassy. [on February 17, 2006, police protesters dead during the demonstrations in front of the Italian consulate]
The secret police are silent over there. Where's the administration?
It's normal in Tripoli to write a report on your neighbor.
It's becoming a game. The spies are fighting each other.
God preserve the little ones. I swear, it's a shame!
On Omar Ibn al-Aas Street you have a special ruin.
The building is still blackened and in its walls there are still bullets.
If I want to buy clothes, I go to al-Aqeed Street.
If I want to get shish tawook, there's a terrific place here.
Al-Shahd Restaurant, here's an advertisement for you.
What should I say? Your sandwiches are always great!
You know on Pepsi Stand they stand in front of the door.
For good burgers, go to Al Shabab restaurant.
If you want to look for the kawish you'd stay for years.
And to buy presents, go to 20th street.
*____________________?
*____________________?
Love and respect from the righteous scoundrel.
This is a greeting from me to teach the accusers.

Benghazi, O Benghazi, you're always on my mind.
It's impossible for me to forget her and I hope she doesn't forget me.
You know the city, you see her sons - always "crazy" [amped].
They have their problems and they're still good people.

Tripoli...Tripoli...Our capital city is calling us.
May God Protect her. May God grant victory to her children. O Lord...
The bride is wounded - a chest wound.
Tripoli is imprisoned - house arrest.
From far away we hear you and our hearts are with you.
Believe me, if I could, I would be near you.
I see you clearly even though you're hiding.
He's still strangling you and your neck is blue.
I'm going up to the highest place to cry.
Because of the tyranny, her face has changed.
I do not know if this word will reach you.
I speak to you, my love. I wish I could come to you.
I am in pain because of your pain.
I wish you'd reply to me
and tell me, "God bless you."
Sleep doesn't come to me at night. He prevents it.
I hear you saying, "I want you here."
I wish...I swear by God and by the verses of the Quran that the wall is soaked in my tears.
They wonder, "What is wrong? What's with him? Is he mad?"
My mind isn't with me when they speak to me.
She is the only beloved - I'll say it clearly.
The western capital: without it, nothing happens.
I hope no one gets jealous. I can't control anything
and that's what hurts me. Take my hands, take my legs.
[Lord,] just keep her [safe].
Patience has its limits, the hearts [have] faithfulness.
We reached a point of no return just like the bullets that hit our chests and our heads.
May god forgive the sniper who takes pity on her.
She is peaceful! Look at her hands! She cannot harm [anyone].
_________. She has never known freedom.
__________. Her story is bitter.
You are the one who is unjust towards her.
On the scales she is worth more than gold and diamonds.
You are making her collapse while acting proud in front of the people.
And then [Gaddafi] denies what the people say.
All the world bears witness and watches.
Everything you do is known.
It is impossible to ignore these facts.
There are millions who are touched by her eyes.
Deadly and violent attacks on us.
May God protect her from this sinful tyrant.
It's true that his regime is illegitimate.
His words are all failing lies.
I can't describe her beauty with my tongue.
It adds to my burden when I see her suffer.
If I were near her, I would unburden what is on my chest.
What was her crime? Go ahead and dig my grave.
I don't have patience anymore, it burns my blood.
I no longer feel hunger, thirst or need to sleep from the sorrow.
Who among the people understands that Tripoli is calling?
Let's put her on top of my country.
The end of the nightmare is the liberation of Tripoli.
We're with you.

I’m still confused about your question, my dear friend.
We expected demonstrations and saw nothing but some jumping up and down.
What say you, Ibn Thabit, about the people’s hearts?
Is there still hope and ambition in the people?
Will they resist oppression as our forefathers did?
Will they sacrifice as those west of our border [in Tunisia] sacrificed?
Do we still have pride and courage in our hearts?
Or do some of us commit hypocrisy in order to fill our pockets?
I want [to know]: do you want my response or the response of the people?
No one but God knows how long I’m going to live.
Do you want the opposite opinion? It has no foundation.
*______________________________________*
The first thing they tell you is, "[You should] thank God that you’re alive!"
I do thank God! If it weren't for the oil, there would be nothing in the country.
And maybe that’s for the best so they can turn it upside-down
like they did in Tunisia! This is a special salute [to Tunisia].
At least we have our bread, and bread is cheap,
but you can’t measure the price of the martyr's blood.
What’s your excuse? Are you waiting for our Lord Jesus [i.e., for Judgment Day]?
The country next door chased its president away!
He said, "I have understood them" after he insulted them.
Muammar, you have never served your people.
Muammar, you’d better give up and repent
because, Muammar, it's impossible to escape.
Our revenge is coming for you like a train though the wall.
We will drown you in water. Bring it! Boil the cooking oil
so you can learn how they screamed at Abu Sleem.
Until they see [that] you [are] in Hell, they will not rest.
I swear by God, who created you and created us:
By God, Muammar, your end is near.
90% of us have become enraged.
One day the rest will say, "Man, I wish we had run away!"
Your money won’t help you when we cut off your heads
on the day when your armies and our armies meet.
*______________________________*
Because [when] the revolution begins you won't be able to fly [away].
I mean a people’s revolution in the [real] meaning of the word.
Gaddafi doesn't have the level of learning [to know it].
It's coming onto the scale like ___________*
I don’t know if he’s clever with anything - ask his nurse!
She’ll tell you that he’s good at distortion.
Anything she says was correct.*
These are the words of paralysis that kill for a penny.
The men of gangs that will do anything for a penny.
The livelihoods they let you were allowed to steal, the innocents you’ve murdered,
the students you’ve ignored: they'll all come back to [haunt] you.
You have nowhere to escape. We know your faces!
No living person will welcome you, so watch out!
We're raising _______ on the henchmen, you dogs!
We know that you don’t know what torture right now.
But now you know - go stash your money abroad!
Switzerland [will] freeze them forever.
You’ve acted as though you're able to do without the people. Filth! You don't wish to serve.
You don’t know how to do anything but steal our wealth.
The livelihoods that you devoured - they'll turn into fire!
This is as clear as the honor of Mr. Omar al-Mukhtar,
who died for this country. Look at what's happening in the country!
How many decades have passed us by?
How many billions have been squandered for nothing?
How much are those who were pleased by this worth, if not nothing?
No one knows me, but my Lord and my Lord is the Judge.
When we topple the leadership, go sit over there [in the corner]!

CHORUS (x2)

CHORUS (x2)
May God accept our martyrs. May God make our country victorious.
Libyans are known as the grandchildren of the martyrs.
But after what we witnessed, they say it's the country of the martyrs.
The martyrs' blood - you saw it on the screens
as our youth stood in front of the machine guns
without fear, even though everywhere death was a certainty.
Each one of them wanted a martyr's death.
Not only to take revenge on the criminal colonel
but because we see the martyrs: every one of them is joyful.
Subhan Allah, God gives martyrdom with the Shahada
And He gives patience and endurance to people.
Our country is full of real men
and the blood of our children, by God, it's not cheap.

CHORUS (x2)
So many tears have been shed.
So much blood has been spilled.
I congratulate the mothers: your children are martyrs.

I offer my condolence and congratulation with what words I have.
The martyr who was sacrificed - don't say that he died.
Say that the victims are sleeping and smiling.
As for those who remain, may God help us and in Him we seek aid.
The Lord is responsive. Patience, by God, is beautiful.
The proof exists in [our] unity of purpose.
because our people are one. Our blood is one.
When one of us is sacrificed, our grief is one.
We link hands together. Our hearts are one.
We stand together in lines against our enemy - united!
A madman, not a human being. What do you call this guy?
Pardon me, but I spit in the faces of those who cheer for him.
It's impossible for the authentic Libyan do such things to his people.
This blood is more sacred than the Kaaba.
I'm not gonna say aything else about the idiot tyrant.
However, glory only comes from [Allah] the Glorious.
O Allah, we seek your aid, [your] assistance.
The Libyans worship you on six million prayer rugs.
We beg you to give mercy to the martyrs.
We beg you to bring unity and harmony to this country of ours.

CHORUS (x2)
So many tears have been shed.
So much blood has been spilled.
I congratulate the mothers: your children are martyrs.

CHORUS (x2)

CHORUS (x2)

CHORUS (x4)

CHORUS (x2)
What are these pills? What, kid?
What, you want to hallucinate with us?
You want what's hot on the market? Take it, grab it, and taste it.
These pills cause freedom in [the people's] hearts and minds.

Al-Geeda [Gaddafi] is a drug addict and his end is near.
Where do you think he learned the phrase, "Taxi Jdayda" [In Libyan slang, people who are high or tripping out are said to be "riding the Taxi Jdayda"]
[His madness] isn't new, but seriously, it's no joke.
This way of thinking isn't far off from how he thinks or
how he interprets [reality]. It's not a big discovery.
In the ________ mafia, Gaddafi is the ringleader.
He's a drug addict who now wants to tell you that Misrata
took the drugs that were brought down from Malta.
Their effect is incredible. Is there a treatment, Doctor?
Destroy the whole world but leave the pipelines [intact].
You want to swallow the pill or watch from afar?
As soon as you begin to hallucinate, a martyr dies in front of you.
And, just so you understand the [drug's] effect at this bitter moment,
you begin, in your imagination, to think about a free Libya.
No! Impossible! This is a hallucinatory idea!
These pills are the result of a political conspiracy!

CHORUS (x2)
What are these pills? What, kid?
What, you want to hallucinate with us?
You want what's hot on the market? Take it, grab it, and taste it.
These pills cause freedom in [the people's] hearts and minds.

Before I return to the subject, [let me say that] the Libyan people are believers.
If he tells you it's drugs, then the Libyan people are addicts.
It's not possible for them to accept a criminal hypocrite.
Whoever cries out for al-Geeda [Gaddafi] is certainly no Muslim.
I'm no sheikh, but I issue a fatwa from my eye to yours.
I said it on Friday in a sermon between me and you.
The street children called for me and said, "Oh, pills? Where are you?"
Inside the neighborhood mosque the bearded ones are distributing pills.
In the name of God - you want them to course through your veins?
Those who took them - they now call them "rebels."
They drag race in tanks. I swear, they're crazy!
And when they closed the internet, it wasn't Israel [who did it].
The static of Al Jazeera is coming from from Bab al-Aziziya [Gaddafi's compound in Tripoli]
It's a good thing Muammar never acquired nuclear weapons!
Or else it's 200% certain that he would have turned them on us.
The one who murders Muslims, I swear, may God curse his faith.

CHORUS (x4)
What are these pills? What, kid?
What, you want to hallucinate with us?
You want what's hot on the market? Take it, grab it, and taste it.
These pills cause freedom in [the people's] hearts and minds.

Listen. Trust me, if you take these drugs, you will begin to hallucinate freedom. I swear!
I'm telling you, those who are smuggling them are the Tunisians and Egyptians.
And those who buy them are Bin Laden's gang, the bearded gang,
in order to establish an Islamic emirate. And the American and the Jews are helping them in order to take the oil from them.
Who said so? The pills said so!

Ramy Donjewan - Against the Government

Ramy Donjewan - Against the Government

Full Arabic and English Lyrics after the jump...

CHORUS (x2)

CHORUS (x3)

[Hosni Mubarak]: I'll come back fleeing everything in the country, eh? Man, wizen up!

Yeah. Against the government. Against the government
Against the government. Against the thuggery and the injustice.
Against the government. Against the ruler and the authority.
Against the government and the rope of injustice is long.
Against the government and I have a thousand reasons!

Your blood, they're spilling it. Your death, they're sanctioning it.
Your homeland, they're making laughingstock of it. Your religion, they're targeting it.
Your voice, they're silencing it. Your rightful due, they're devouring it.
Your brother, they're still killing him and the rest of the people are being tortured.
If you live, you live in starvation. If you die, you have no blood money.
If you speak, you become a victim and you're treated with savagery.
Gangster politics! Gangs of thugs!
A hostile government wants to tear you and me to pieces!
The oppressor and the oppressed. The ruler and the condemned.
To whom will I complain? And whom will I blame?
Should I blame the people who get hit by the dirtiest boot and remain silent?
Or a government that controls everything with hearts that've died?

So down with the government! So down with the regime!
So down with the [Emergency] Law! So down with the rulers!
So down with the coward! So down with the traitor!
So down with the nice man if his kindness will let him be humiliated!

CHORUS (x2)
I'm against the government. Against the thuggery and the injustice.
Against the government. Against the ruler and the authority.
Against the government. Against the traitor and the coward.
Against the government. Against he who accepts being humiliated.

Every worthless Tom, Dick, and Harry now is still humiliating you.
You have no value. You have no worth. Your rulers are selling you.
They are neglecting you. They are making a fool of you.
They threw you into the arms of your enemies with the greatest of ease.

You poor guy, it's your own hand that gives you pain. There are a thousand snakes around you
and they keep biting you. No matter how much you suffer,
there's no one who intends to help you. You don't help yourself.
Don't tell me what's stopping you - stopping you. Were someone to push you,
for whom would you be waiting to bring you your rightful due?
I tell him, "for thirty years he's been beating you."
He keeps cleaning his teeth while you're silent and he sews your mouth shut.
With his sword he cleaves you. You're not dead, but your brain is being killed.
Enough sleep! Enough death! Enough silence!
If you have blood FOR REAL, yell with your loudest voice:
I'm against the government because I have value [as a human being]!
Against the government and I will not accept defeat!

CHORUS (x3)
I'm against the government. Against the thuggery and the injustice.
Against the government. Against the ruler and the authority.
Against the government. Against the traitor and the coward.
Against the government. Against he who accepts being humiliated.

[Mubarak]: Man, wizen up! Heh heh heh.

Chorus

Chorus

This is a message to the officials in this nation
who cling to the seats [of power] and don't care about the people's condition.
Look at the Tunisian people now, how they brought independence.
After years of torture, today we shook the mountains!
In the name of the martyrs who died and those who were buried beneath the soil
who sacrificed [their] blood against oppression and against the bastards.
Against 23 years of repression and colonialism.
Against the monsters who, by the sweat of the people, stole their billion[s].
[The revolutionaries] had to deliver the solution...we saw them die from gunfire for our sakes.
Look at the blood, look at the death, [caused by] those who murdered and didn't intervene.
Terrorist gangs serve on account of the ruler.
I have confidence in the army. Be patient! One step will extinguish your fire.
Tunisian to Tunisian, with compassion for one another, we broke down the door.
2011! The entire intifada comes from the youth!
We are the solution, not the problem. We are the ones who seized freedom.
Hand in hand, the whole nation, long live democracy!

CHORUS:
Long live Tunisia the Green! Long live the blood of the martyrs!
From me to you, a greeting of appreciation, you glorious heroes
who defended the country for the sake of the homeland!
In my name, and in the name of the people, I would like to say that Tunisia is everything!

Tunisia, I will defend you. Tunisia, I will change you.
My blood, my imprisonment isn't on my mind. Today, I will sacrifice my life for you.
I caught your attention. Don't say that El Général was scared or crushed.
I still have my head raised high. If I die, I die at peace.
I'm still here. My voice transcends the borders.
I still fight for you, God be praised! We broke the chains.
The Tunisian people are free. We live as men and die as men.
We are the ones who made change with the martyrs' blood: look at the conditions!
But this will not be stopped even if we remain under pressure.
There, you see our families under gunfire, eating lead.
We must solve our problems before America enters
or France enters with the gun, with the army, with the tactics.
This is a message to the rulers, to those who committed treason, to those who committed apostasy:
Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, they all must be liberated!
The final word that my voice brings is for the country's upcoming president:
Tunisia, honesty/integrity is within your grasp! You must eliminate corruption!

CHORUS:
Long live Tunisia the Green! Long live the blood of the martyrs!
From me to you, a greeting of appreciation, you glorious heroes
who defended the country for the sake of the homeland!
In my name, and in the name of the people, I would like to say that Tunisia is everything!

(joke about Tunisians asking Libyans to duck so they can see the revolutionaries in Egypt)
Who is it who said duck down, let the men see each other?
Bring what the others saw, and multiply it by four
You ask me about Libya? It's full of [real] men.
From Tobruk to Derna to The City of Sands [Misurata]
Misuratians, you have done the West proud
The grandchildren of Ramadan Al-Swahli are beasts in war.
Zawiya, in Arabic a corner, is a city of men.
If you don't see it, go ask the Khamis Brigade.
Benghazi, [Gaddafi] is still bewildered about what to do with you.
Always the one that rises up first, and, behind it, Shahat [Cyraenica], Ajdabiya
Those from Zawiya say "I won't move from my places" and millions won't buy one Zintani.
A fatwa from Sadiq al-Gheriani, the poetry of your Furjani brother.
It's normal. Do what you will, you who wants to destroy buildings.
You won't be able to destroy those who come at you from everywhere.
From Marj, Misalata, Baida, Wadan: knights
of the truth whom no one can deny.
Even the prisoners, see how we treat them
The days of "let's avoid sedition" are over
if Ibn Thabit was inspiring sedition then, let me repeat the words I said long ago
Geeda [Gaddafi] is sitting in his base, and this is the proof of [his] cowardice
Don't describe the sixth - From Ghadames to Gheryan,
I swear that our women have lifted our nation.
There isn't one person among us who isn't participating in the struggle.
Truly, these are the grandchildren of the lions of the desert.
We endure the heat, unlike the apes of the desert.
The apes of the desert are those who support al-Geeda [Gaddafi].
Curse the religion of he who tells you that Gaddafi is his master.
I want to know how he can betray his Libyan brother with his own hand.
In the new Libya, no one will listen to you for a even minute - most definitely!
_______________ and I tell you that this music
is beneficial for he who walks along path
of freedom. In front of us all are all the flowers
of freedom - it's the masses' only goal.
The people deserve a good life in return. The patient Libyan people
rebel without an atom of fear left in their hearts
The graves in the cemetaries are full of martyrs.
morale does not depend on weapons
He speaks of "the armed nation" (defending him) go to hell, you storyteller.
No one kills on this scale unless he is a terrified person.
Your pilots are Serbian mercenaries.
They drop their bombs on peaceful tribes,
Because this is it, the Libyan's nationalism.
So you can learn the meaning of the words "the people's revolution."
When you kill one of us, the Libyan people's blood becomes hot.
Put them in front of a tank and they'll give it to you in the teeth.
You lie in spite of your eyes! Look at the pictures, you damned person.
Almost 6 million people are drug addicts?
He's poisoned in his head. He's still sending snipers.
They want to kill us all, you will see, you spies.
Because bullets in the storehouses aren't sufficient for this project.
Neither machine guns nor Kalashnikovs blocked our limb
Despite the blood, sorrow, tears, with every passing week
we smile at the sight of the raised banner
There is no retreat. Gaddafi, say what you will say.
The Libyan nation curses you along its length and breadth.
In most of the cities, Geeda's portrait is in the rubbish.
All the tongues tell you that all that's missing is Tripoli's freedom.
All hearts are there, from Zintan to Benghazi.
And the nation accepts the Transitional Council.
The Libyan people are 100% when it comes to brotherhood
and those of you who know know that Muammar understands nothing but force.
The only question is when and not if.
We will be rid of Muammar and Libya will be smooth like honey.
I spit on you Muammar, shame is upon you until Judgment Day.
The fires of Hell are knocking on the door of your headquarters.
If there's one of you henchmen with even an atom of honor, go and tell him the situation.
[But] they only know how to say "Yes, sir"
or they tell you the people themselves are killing themselves.
Henchmen, the truest thing I heard you say about Geeda:
"With you we live and without you we die."
We are coming for you, you filthy people.
Person by person. Alley by alley.
