Best Middle East Act, Who Should Take Home The MTV Award?

Accorsing To MTV EMA 2012 award nominations, there are five different entertainers from the Middle East who are up for the Best Middle East Act. As a music blogger, I only know three of them and the rest I have no idea who they are. And I think this should be a warning sign for the organizers. 

1. Ahmed Soultan, He Stands Behind A New Music Style He Calls Afrobian, For Afro-Arabian. He Comes From The Land Of Morocco Where He Has Taken Part Of Many Music Festivals And So Far He Has Released Two Albums To Date. If creativity is to win, Ahmed may be the winner of the night.
2. K2rhym, A Tunisian Rapper (Karim Algharbi) Signed By EMI France To Make Music In 2006 When He Made The Switch From Professional Football.  He Is Based In Lebanon Where He Keeps A Busy Schedule. He Wins The Most Creative Name There Is. If interesting life and indie persona to win, K2rhm is it is.
3. Karl Wolf, the Biggest Name On This List And More International Fame Than Middle Easter Fame. Canadian Lebanese R&B Singer. He makes good music and most recently he has done a duet with Sandy, who is on the same nomination. If international name recognition counts, he is the awardee.
4. Qusai, Smooth Saudi Rapper with Great Songs In Both Arabic And English. Had A Big Hit Album Earlier This Year, And Does Fresh Music That Appeals To Arabs And Non-Arabs alike. He does make fresh raps and seems like a good role model. If CD sales where to vote, he might as well win.
5. Sandy, The Biggest Celebrity On This List, A Pop Princess Known In Egypt And The Rest Of The Arab World, She Is Very Resourceful And Very Exciting To Man People In The Area. She Has At Least Three Albums To Her Name, And Has Generated Fame And Success In Concerts Mainly In Egypt. If YouTube video views can vote, Sandy will go home with the award.

Where Have All The Decent Latifa Songs Gone?

Tamer Hosny is the causality of the Egyptian revolution, Latifa is the causality of the one in Tunisia. She was a friend of the regime, and they have always honored her and asked her to perform in their private and public events.

The revolution stars, she stays mum, the revolution wins she stays mum.Then she said stuff that might have offended some people. Bu frankly she has not had any good press in more than three years--even before the Arab Spring. I do recall reading a story from Latifa where she told of her new born niece named something after the new Tunisia.

Latifa is a great singer with a really nice voice which she used for both pop and Tarab songs. She made dozens of fun songs that remains with us and with many generations to come. But I do not know what it is with Latifa finding good songs or making time to release new material.

In few years, Latifa's political affiliation might be viewed as a good thing as the Islamic leaning politicians are already freaking out some people over there.

In the meantime, here's a song of Latifa's where she does a Tunisian dialect hit, something she has not done enough of lately.

For Those Who Miss Badriyah Al Sayed, She is BACK بدريه السيد انا عيني عليه

She took part of Star Academy more than two years ago, she was not the sharpest tool in the box, but likable she was. She made friends with everyone, she joked around and made best friends with Rahma Ahmed. Rahma was busy making a career, Badriyah moved to Beirut for work.

Now she is released her debut music video where she gives you the beach. The song sounds like an Egyptian beat--mostly the city of Alexandria. There was another lady that went by the name Badriyah Al Sayed years ago and she helped shape the folksy songs. Here's another Badriyah picking the same style and adding a bit more romance to this modern day tale.

If YouTube comments tell us anything, this songstress have fans out there who really miss her and want to be part of her life. For this new single, she has challenged herself and voice training may have done her wonders.  The new look seems to have worked beautifully.

WATCH: The Many Girlfriend Of Kathem Al Saher

Iraqi composer singer and now reality TV star Kazem Al Saher is a charmer, he is well known for his touching and epic romantic songs. He has been in the business for 20 plus years and he have had dozens of hits and many great albums. He is not a guy who likes to talk too much about himself in interviews and such he seems like a down to earth guy. But in his music video he holds nothing back, always with gorgeous ladies.

He is a happily married man with a lovely family and a recent grandchild given to him by his older son Wissam. This family man has had many musical collaborations with lead female artists. Sometimes he has loaned them his music, sometimes he would sing with them on stage. Let's take a look at some of his most famous lady muses:

1. Latifa from Tunis, she was the first lady Kathem Al Saher has worked with. He has sang with her and has composed songs for her. She was a huge name and he was starting up his career then. They are best of friends.  كاظم الساهر /البرت هول 1997 / ياقدس
2. Egyptian songstress Ghada Raghab was next on the list. Kathem has comended her voice and has given her a musical piece. It was a lovely collaboration from a guy who has been around the block and a new voice then. لمـــــاذا ؟ - غادة رجب  كاظم الساهر غاده رجب - ابعد عني  
3. Magida El Roumy is a huge star and has sang a number of poems by Syrian poet Nizar Qabbany--the go to guy for many of Kathem's gorgeous songs. Magida wanted to collaborate with Kazem so he gave her one of his best musical work to date--she added it to her 2012 album. 4. Asma Laminawar, then, she was a local singer with a lot of talent. She had the local fame, but on the pan Arab music radar, she was unnoticed. They did a song together in early 2007-2008 and then they performed it on stage in Morocco. It was an instant hit, so Kathem doubled down and did another song with this Moroccan delight in his 2009 album. "I'M Waiting" Nader Guirat Deserves The Wait

The year was 2008 when a young Tunisian man walked into the set of Star Academy season five and people let him into their homes. Nader did duet songs with just about all the stars one loves including Cheb Khaled,  Karl Wolf, Massari, Ahmed Al-Sherif. Nader left the show with a lot more experience and a bigger fan base that wanted to see more of the young artist.

This multi talented singer who has performed in English, French, Italian, Spanish and Arabic. Through the song below, one can track Nader's musical influence--Pop, Rock, Acoustic, Alternative, Metal, Classical Music, Oriental Music and Comédie Musicale.

And impressive turn in Nader's career is his collaboration with the with music arranger Michel Fadel and ‘The National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine’, where the song video was shot. ‘L’Ange Perdu’ received best song of the year award from Tunisian radio stations

Now few years later, he is back with a new single in English and with an American singer whose vocals are a perfect match for Nader's. Nader showcased his guitar skills to my amusement, the guy is no poser, he is the real deal. He does have a true crossover appeal, as his language and multi-talents will open doors for him, he shows a lot of energy for live and accosting performances.

This year, along with Dylan Lloyd , a fellow contestant in Crimea Music Fest, Nader released his most recent work “I’m Waiting”. A passionate song that shows another perspective of Nader’s promising music talent. And it doesn’t end there, this multi-cultural music talent still has a few projects up his sleeve His new album is due to drop soon, I know foe which I will be waiting.

“I’m Waiting” was written by Nader Guirat and his friend Dylan Lloyd, the song was mastered and mixed by another freind who likes this kind of hot music, Aymen El Guedri. This is a song two friends who like music and have a passion for good projects came up with. America's Dylan Lloyd featured in his ballad a new comer that goes by the name Nader Guirat who also co-wrote this track

So where do two musicians like this meet? Don't worry, they mean on something called the famous TV show in Ukraine called "Crimea Music Fest" last September 2011. I like this song, it sounds like what would a rock band working in a garage can produce.

The Hit Show "The Voice" Gets The Arab Version

or maybe it's the Lebanese version. What has been done right so far, is the judges, the management has picked 4 awesome names in Arabic music who truly can sing and have a reputation for their strong voices and their musical knowledge.  AS far as the business is concerned, the intellectual property rights of the show belong to Talpa Holding, while Sony Pictures Television (STP) Arabia- representing Talpa formats in the region - is the co-production company.

This American show is now landing in Arabia and the masses are unsure what to make of another show that will waste more of people's time to pick talents who might never make it in this world again. MBC is hosting the show in the same format, 4 judges, they hear the voice, not see the person singing and then make their call. The person who likes the voice will be a mentor for the guest.

They already had a press conference about it and people are starting to talk about this high caliber show with big names like of Assi Hallani (Lebanon), Kathem Al Saher (Iraq), Sherine (Egypt) and Saber El Robaei (Tunisia). I would not watch the show, but I will follow its news.

Following the exclusive rights to broadcast the international TV show 'The Voice' in the MENA region on MBC1, MBC Group revealed the four star “coaches” of the show:

Kadim Al Sahir, Sherine Abdel Wahab, Saber Al Roba’ei and Assi El Hellani. The program will be hosted by Egyptian actor Mohamed Karim. This is a sing of the great recession that Arabic music have been seeing since the Arab Spring started.

Do We Really Need Saber El Robaey?

Saber was cool for a second in 2000 and then cool again in 2003, but then he not done anything fresh in almost a decade. He is a Tunisian star who has done little for his home country, he lives and works in Lebanon. And now since he has stayed mum on the Arab Spring, he is back speaking up about politics, but in the overtime.

I do not really know what he brings to the pop game anymore? I just cannot connect with his new stuff and feel his voice seems tired. What might be helpful for Saber is not volumes, but quality. I do not think he has found anything that would make him a star again.

watch his presser and interview talking about his concert in Lebanon. I do think he is overrated, but not because he is not talented, but rather because he has yet to challenge himself once again.

This is a message to the officials in this nation
who cling to the seats [of power] and don't care about the people's condition.
Look at the Tunisian people now, how they brought independence.
After years of torture, today we shook the mountains!
In the name of the martyrs who died and those who were buried beneath the soil
who sacrificed [their] blood against oppression and against the bastards.
Against 23 years of repression and colonialism.
Against the monsters who, by the sweat of the people, stole their billion[s].
[The revolutionaries] had to deliver the solution...we saw them die from gunfire for our sakes.
Look at the blood, look at the death, [caused by] those who murdered and didn't intervene.
Terrorist gangs serve on account of the ruler.
I have confidence in the army. Be patient! One step will extinguish your fire.
Tunisian to Tunisian, with compassion for one another, we broke down the door.
2011! The entire intifada comes from the youth!
We are the solution, not the problem. We are the ones who seized freedom.
Hand in hand, the whole nation, long live democracy!

From me to you, a greeting of appreciation, you glorious heroes
who defended the country for the sake of the homeland!

Tunisia, I will defend you. Tunisia, I will change you.
My blood, my imprisonment isn't on my mind. Today, I will sacrifice my life for you.
I caught your attention. Don't say that El Général was scared or crushed.
I still have my head raised high. If I die, I die at peace.
I'm still here. My voice transcends the borders.
I still fight for you, God be praised! We broke the chains.
The Tunisian people are free. We live as men and die as men.
We are the ones who made change with the martyrs' blood: look at the conditions!
But this will not be stopped even if we remain under pressure.
There, you see our families under gunfire, eating lead.
We must solve our problems before America enters
or France enters with the gun, with the army, with the tactics.
This is a message to the rulers, to those who committed treason, to those who committed apostasy:
Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, they all must be liberated!
The final word that my voice brings is for the country's upcoming president:
Tunisia, honesty/integrity is within your grasp! You must eliminate corruption!

Saber el Rubai

The Tunisian singer Saber el Rubai has a very nice voice. He is very elegant, sensitive and honest with himself and with his audience. He was born on the 12th of March in Tunisia. He started singing when he was twelve years old, encouraged by his family for his father played the Oud and his brother was a singer. Besides singing, Saber plays the Oud and the violin.He started the singing as his profession at 17 years old impressed by great singers among which Mohammad Abd El Wahab, Abd El Kader El Asaly, Wadih Al Safi, Abd El Halim Hafez, Karem Mahmoud. Saber composed some of his songs’ melodies among which the song “Word” (Kalima) with an outstanding rhythm. His work with Hilmi Baker, Salah El Charnoubi and Dr Abd El Rab Idriss was a great success. Great singers such as Sayyed Makkawi and Warda were very impressed by his voice.

Hind Sabry is born in Tunisia on November 20. She studied in Lycee Francais De Tunis, and then in 2001 she got a law license at the faculty of law of Tunisia. Then in 2004, she got masters in law, she has no brothers or sisters.
Hind Sabry's start in show business came through a role in Samt Al-Qossour in 1996. The film was shown at the Cairo International Festival as well as the Cannes International Film Festival and it landed the cast several prizes. As for the beautiful actress, Hind managed to secure the Best Actress award in the Valencia international film festival for her role in the film. Then several other roles followed. Films like Moussem Al-Dagal, Leila Fi Shahr Yolyou and Al-Kabsh Al-Aswad also pushed the actress forward and shed light on her acting talents.
Then came her true break when she met the famous director Inas Al-Deghedy. The controversial director offered the ambitious actress a role in her upcoming film. The talented actress accepted the offer and took on a role in Deghedy's movie Mozakerat Moraheqa in 2001. In the same year, Hind Sabry released another movie Mowaten wa Mokhber wa Haramy. The movie marked the first acting experience for the popular singer Shabaan Abdul Rahim and starred handsome actor Khaled Aboul Naga.
Two years later, Sabry took on a role in Ezzay Tekhali Al-Banat Tehebak alongside famous stars like Hani Salama, Somaya El Khashab and Lebanese actress Nour. By this time, Hind Sabry had become known as a talented actress in both her homeland Tunisia and Egypt. But the star's dreams were bigger than what she had already accomplished by then, one of her many goals was to finish her studies in Law and obtain her Masters Degree and PhD someday.Sourse http://www.yallabina.com
