سامى يوسف - تبعوه لما عرفوا Video: Sami Yusuf "It's A Game"

Muslims Rocker Sami Yusef is back with force and I am so happy to see him walk into the spotlight again with a song worthy of this talented musician. This time he is back with a song about the prophet and the film they made about him. Sami is a very sober voice among many Muslims.

His comeback song is animated this time, and offers plenty of martial for the young an old. Sami is looking cool even in cartoonish look. It seems he has found his zen to challenge his vocals one more time and produce such a lovely song in at least three languages. In under two hours, the song has already packed so many views online.

His advise, let them say what they wish....it's a game. The artist finally crafted a song that will reboot his career and bring him back to his earlier successes. This time he is teaching Muslims to be cool under pressure without sounding patronizing. Anger is not a strategy....

Music At ISNA Annual Convention

The Islamic Society of North America--the ones they say weather it's Eid or not had a sold out convention in the heart of the Nation's capital. They brought the speakers who spoke about Islam and its role. they also spoke on challenges facing the community. Business also were there selling and promoting various merchandise of interest to the Muslim community--Dish and Hajj.

But they also included some entertainment by a performance of Native Deen, the local native rap band from DC who have a global name recognition. The band knows how to work a crowd and knows hoe to turn the blues into cheers.

Native Deen promoted their brand and sold their CDs, I think they were in their elements and I like their interviews with fans and convention goers. They did a great job reaching out to young Muslims and getting them excited about something they can relate to.

Lupe Fiasco Islam, Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1

One of America's finest rapper is Lupe Fiasco, born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco was born a Sunni Muslim, Lupe says he fully embraced Islam when his cousin, who had just converted, moved in with the family when he was 13. To me, Lupe is one of the smartest and most informed rappers out there. Rappers are not to be thinkers, not this one.

But as a rapper his 2006 album shaken the rap industry and presented fresh material. A year later "The Cool" where he was bolder and had a biggest budget. "Lasers" was not as celebrated as the previous work. Socially aware hip hop album and very electronic with some good singles, but as an album it disappointed. The problem is in the entertainment value, most agreed with the ideas and philosophy  but the music left somethings to be desired.  Now comes, "Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1"

I am reading his interview with Newsweek and I am astonished how informed and how one can have an intelligent conversation with this very talented raper.

About the film--or trailer "Innocence of Muslims", the anti-Islam amateur film Lupe walked a fine line “They should fight for the dude’s right to make that movie. Unfortunately, we also live in a world with everyone else. America is not its own planet. You can say whatever you want, but have some class.” He adds, “It’s a provocation, but I think that at the same time, the Muslim world is taking it a little too seriously. If you want to battle and protest against it, this is the opportunity to talk about all the great things the Prophet Muhammad has done and the ways he’s inspired people.” This is true and Lupe said it best. After all he is the guy who had a song called Muhammad Talks.

“There’s Muslim rage. There’s Christian rage too,” he says. “Truth is supposed to hurt. That shit’s supposed to hurt, it’s not supposed to feel good. If you’re feeling good about something, you should really question that. That’s how I was raised. With Muslim rage, you’ve got a kid who walks into a restaurant with a bomb strapped around his waist, pulls a cord or presses a button, and kills all these innocent people. He’s not killing Christians or Jews, he’s killing other Muslims from a different section of Islam, because they’re Shia and he’s Sunni. He’s 1,400 years removed from the original conflict, so people say, ‘That’s terrible.’ Then you have a plane that drops a five-ton bomb on a school because there are reports that it’s insurgent-based, but they haven’t been thoroughly sorted, and you just dropped a bomb on a school and killed kids. And that guy’s Christian. But you don’t say, ‘Oh, these terrible Christians.’ All you say is, ‘Oh, these misguided intelligence officers. It’s collateral damage. Shit happens.’”

He continues: “Isn’t that rage, to drop a bomb on somebody? Isn’t it rage to park a tank 50 miles away and shoot rockets into a village? What’s more rage: people burning an effigy of a president that they’re never going to meet, as people chant and throw rocks, and then they go home to their poverty-stricken shanty towns. What’s more rage: that, or dropping a nuclear bomb on somebody? We’re still the only country that’s done that.”

For More details: Here

Lupe strikes me as a very loyal person who stays close to his roots not trump on them. He is very vocal about his religion, but he also remembers the great things that come with free speech. Lupe is rapping like he is your favorite history professor. His fourth album Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1 is out.

Ayman El Refaie: When Sexy Prays

The good looking, and charming singer Ayman El Refaie has a song where he is praying to the good Lord. The handsome almost model look singer who comes from Egypt chose an odd time to release his latest track. It might be that he wants us to know prayer is as good any time and it doe snot have to be limited to the holy month of Ramadan--when most such songs get aired.

Ayman is a rare breed, he sings, composers and writes his own lyrics too--which gives him an advantage in both the business and the artistic sides. Ayman started his career in 2006 and has already authored two songs that were featured in films--one of whom won him an ward.

Where Is Outlandish When You Need Them To Pop?

I was introduced to band Outlandish by an American roommate of mine at college. He comes from the great state of Washington and he was a fan. He thought I would like the band because they have Islamic feel to them and the lead vocalist has Moroccan origins (Isam Bachiri).

The band has Pakistani and Danish upbringings, two band mebers are Muslims and one Catholic from Cuban origins. he band does a fresh take on hip-hop/R&B/soul music. The bulk of their songs is in English, but they usually feature lyrics in Spanish, Urdu/Punjabi, Danish, and Arabic which gives their tracks an exotic flavor few global stars can claim.

Their hit song Aicha took the world by storm and was well received in places like Asia namely South Korea. Their other tracks often top the charts in European capitals. The band has participated in the Evening of Inspiration concerts since 2006.  They continue to be involved in a number of causes and their music inspires hope.

I have not heard any new songs from their band in at least three years now. Below is a track that I was touched by.

Guitars For Islam By Mohammed Rahim

I know him as the slickest composer for Arabic romantic songs, in addition to him having his own brand and a great voice where he uses to release singles on timely matters. Like the one below where he is celebrating Islam.  This shows the guys true colors, he makes romantic songs for the likes of Elissa, but at the end of the day he also believes.

I like the kids in the background studying and playing, I like the young people who are doing the right thing and getting married while surrounded by family and friends who are cheering them on. I love the old man, he has that face each of us sees in his grandfather and his elders. The song is about love and how it completes all things. The song is about having a faith, but also not losing site of the love in the process.

The song is dreamy, even it's about Islam and the prophet. I like the guitar bit right next to the mosque site. It's a nice touch where the originality an faith join in with an art form without being disrespectful. The best way to sum Rahim,s voice is this way, he is like a breath of cool breeze that sweeps your soul in a hot summer day.

Me, Myself, And My Muslim Eid

The Muslim holiday of Eid is almost upon us (this Sunday by most accounts), marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan when Muslims abstain from many things including food and drinks from dawn to sunset. Eid is the day we no longer have to fast and we can feast upon whatever the heart desires. It’s a day where many Muslims get stomach aches from pigging out. I learned this the hard way a few years ago on my first Eid at home after being away for so long. The next day I fell ill due to eating lots of candy, desserts and nuts during my visits with family and friends.

I realize that many of the Muslim countries and communities around the globe have their own rituals to celebrate the day. The biggest winner on this day of celebration are the kids who extort cash and gifts from the adults in the family, most notably their parents. It’s a great day to be a kid as you get to buy pretty much whatever you like and eat all the candy and street food you can find.

I recall not going to sleep on the eve of Eid as the mosques go crazy with their microphone praying and wishing everyone a happy holiday. But that’s not why I would not go to sleep, it’s just that we are excited for this day to come. We would put our new clothes next to our beds and wake up first thing in the AM. We would break into our parents’ bedroom, kiss their hands looking cute and wait for them to give us our cut. This became an issue for many countries, as there would be a shortage of smaller bills and coins because everyone wants change to hand out to people. As kids, the last thing we wanted to hear from our parents was “I will you give you your cash gift once I have change.” Instead we would offer to go break the money for them and we would do just that.

I lived part of my childhood in Dubai, and on the day of the Eid we would wear our new clothes--the ones we bought just a few days prior, and then accompany our parents (mostly our dad) to the mosque. Everyone looked so happy and so shiny on this day, and yes, everyone gets a new pair of shoes, too. Aside from getting cash or (عيدية) from our parents, in Dubai it was common for strangers to offer you gifts, cash and candy on that day. Some would even walk around the rich neighborhood and knock on doors, asking for something. The streets were decorated, and the shops were well stocked with toys and anything that kids like.

At the mosque, complete strangers would shake your hand and give you hugs; people were joyous. I remember being impressed by the Pakistani and African Muslims who would wear their brightly-colored national dresses on this day--something I still see here in the States, too. Afterward, everyone would head home where they would partake of a feast--mostly containing salty food. In Egypt and many Arab countries they would consume Feisikh (grey mullet left out to putrefy, then salted and left to pickle for several months). I was not a fan, but my mom would never know it.

This is the one day when as a kid, you get to go through your wish list and pick out something nice for yourself. Some mothers try to reason with their kids and persuade them to let mommy hold that money for them--not me. I remember in every Arab country boys would buy kites, trucks and swords. But the most popular boy toy was a plastic gun, either water or firecracker. We would organize games where we’d play off against the guys two streets down from our homes. Needless to say, while boys are rolling in the dirt and running around, girls are looking snazzy with those fancy purses and popular dolls. In Dubai, the local politician would have an open house where people would come to meet and greet--they could also pick up a generous gift on their way out.

Most countries release some inmates on this day to have them be with their families, a nice gesture that most Muslim countries do around the holidays. TV would show the best movies and the best music videos all day in the hopes you would get home and watch their ads. Families would also visit with each other and bring sweets and sometimes raw meat.

Eid stops to be fun for boys who are in their early teens, as at that point people start to treat you as a grown man and not give you a cash gift. Lucky for the ladies, they will always get those cash gifts--people are very religious about this. Brothers, fathers, and uncles who are too poor to give out cash gifts still visit their female relatives and strive not to come empty-handed.

At one point when I realized I could no longer receive cash gifts, I figured out another way to make money. I started a toy stand where I would make money selling toys for boys and girls around town. I did well that day, even though I did not get to rest, but the money was worth it and I found a way to be busy on this day.

In Dubai we did not have family, but when we relocated to Gaza, the family came into the picture and we would get more cash gifts--also my dad had to give a lot more than he used to in Dubai. My lovely grandparents were the most generous with us and their gift to us meant a lot more. We liked their teasing and jokes about us--of course we would still kiss their hands and place it on our forehead. A few things make Eid different in Gaza: for starters, there seems to be a truce between the Occupation and the Palestinians on this day. It’s something that most appreciate, though the Israelis have used that day to sneakily abduct or assassinate people whom they do not like. Another thing is the funeral homes, where if a family has seen the passing of a family member it has an open house where people can swing by to visit with those in mourning. At the time, there were not too many places one could go in Gaza for Eid. You could either go to the beach or the Gaza business district and buy a liver and onion sandwich for about 25 cents. Yet somehow, family made all the difference and our days of celebrations were fun filled even in this hot spot. Regardless of where one lives, it’s always good to have a good time.

Shady El Ghitany Joins The Ramadan Fray

He dubs himself a new star for a new generation, that's Shady El Ghitany, a young composer from Egypt with the hair of a rock star. He just released a supplication track about how God reveals himself through his most simple of his creatures. He composed the song and performed it too.

The song is about his plea to be along with prophet Mohammad in judgment day. It's a good song and Shady sounds pretty good at such songs--I am certain he can do romance songs too. I like the emotional flow of the track.

Here's How The Anti-Islam Filmmaker Nakoula Basseley Looks Like

Leave it to the Brits to do some real journalism. The Britich newspaper, "The Daily Mill" published the first newspaper for the man behind the movie maker who sat the Middle East on fire. He posed for a picture with Anna Gurji, the actress that played the role of Aicha. Who has told the paper, the movie was supposed to be a bout a comet that hit the earth, and the people have thought of it a holy thing.  Nakoula Basseley  Nakoula – also known as Sam Bacile

He has paid the actors 75 bucks for their acting a day and gave them free lunch. He had duped all of them, and by doing so he has put all their lives in dancer recklessly. He has forget that all religions preach against lying.

As for his look, he looks like a sleazy shit head that he is--a drug dealer as we know now. His mustach cannot be anything good.

Anti-Islam movie ‘weirdest movie scam of all time’

This Anti-Islam movie gets weirder and weirder. Here's a great video reporting on this movie, a person that was actually in the theater and saw the movie along with just 10 people. The promotional material is really strange as it plays like it's pro Islam, only to show a movie that's blatantly anti-Islam.

This is not the one thing weird about this film, watch the video to see more. The people who made the movie are a weird bunch who wanted to stir trouble and provoke Muslims. Cenk Uygur from The Young Turks on Current TV reports

Angham's "Hekaya Mohamadia" Album Is Really Magnificant

In the fall of 2010, during the month of Ramadan Angham released an all Islamic songs album (hekaya-mohamadia), where she told tales of the early Muslim ladies of Islam, the wives and the daughters of the prophet. It was a VERY clever idea that few have though of. Angham is a strong female personality and thus she was worthy of adding her voice to those stories. The album sold well, but it was never about the money.

Needless to say, when I play those tracks, Roa would tell me she doe snot like Angham's voice, she did not feel it, but I did. So I would have to listen to my favorite Ramadan album on my own. I thought the stories she told are important factual tales form the Islamic history. Thus young girls need to hear such stories and learn form them.

The lyrics are written by Nabil Khalaf, a gifted composers who made other religious themes albums that rocked the boat--I am speaking of his collaboration with Wael Jassar. Back to Angham, she really connected all the dots and rose to a new level with this sobering album

This album is a much better representation of positive chapters from the Muslim history. Chances are those are burning down embassies will be the same one condemning Angham for singing because she is a female.

Those Ultra-Conservative Muslims Scare Me Too

My latest article on the ridiculous film and the more ridiculous response to it
None of my extended family protested the film; they are busy in their businesses and school. None of the college graduates I know took part in a protest. To be clear, they are all dissatisfied with the film and its message. But they chose to ignore the idiots on both sides. Unlike the mob, most Muslims are not looking for a distraction; they are busy trying to make the world a better place for their children. My family and Muslim friends are saddened and ashamed by the act of a few thugs who seem not to want to give their own religion a break.

KashKool (Notebook) Band Sings For Ramadan

A cool B list Band that goes by the name Kashkool just released their Ramadan track reminding us why Egypt is a great place to observe the holy month. They kicked of their track with the Azaan or the call to prayer. A band member actually performs it flawlessly.

And then the song stars in the humility of humans seeking forgiveness, and others seeking to break bread with many on one of those tables all over the streets of Egypt. This is a good song, and the style in which it was made reminds of of the 60s tracks that are made for the same purpose. The lead vocalist on this track really earns his paycheck.

Funnyman Adel Imam Won't Go To Jail, Says Court

Back in February 2012, a lower court in Egypt found the seasoned Egyptian comedic actor Adel Imam guilty of disrespecting religion and being offensive. They have given him a three month jail sentence and a fine of roughly 2 thousand US dollars. He appealed with a higher court and was backed by pretty much everyone with a brain in Egypt.

Today he was cleared of those charges, and the decision is final. The court has found the actor innocent as he did not intend to offend any religion, but he wanted to show some negative manners and behaviors in the Egyptian society.  I think this is a fair trial and did away with all the media wars. Court of laws should be Independent and they have shown as much. All these talking heads need to feel ashamed. And Mr. Asran Mansour, the attorney who have brought the case should stop his senseless attacks on entertainers.

Imam is Arab world's most famous living comic actors. The actor has frequently poked fun at authorities and politicians during a 40-year career, has one month to appeal and will remain free until that process was concluded today. Adel Imam cheered the ruling and have spoke well of both the legal system and the entertainment industry in Egypt

Anti-Islam Film "Innocence of Muslims" Kills People

For starter, I wish we Muslims do not get worked up as much about things that are offensive to us. This rage can be used against us and it certainly can be used to harm others among us. If we get upset every time a moron makes a vile movie about Islam, draws a cartoon of the prophet, or says dumb things, we are in trouble. Because certain people will use that to get us to react in a certain way to show others that we are not civilized. But this is what we have to deal with. We should not kill people even if we do not like them, this should be our attitude. Having said that, I'm a free speech absolutist - but I'm not an anti-religion absolutist

The teaser movie "Innocence of Muslims", depicts Muhammad as a fraud and a womanizer. that has been making the rounds on the internet had 54 actors in and and close to 50 people behind the camera it cost 5 million dollars to make. We are also being told that it was financed by a 100 Jewish funders. The director of the film is an Israeli who lives in California and now is in hiding. He made this movie despite the facts he knows what will happen. He now has blood on his hands. Why did he release the movie now?

Now this is where my opinion kicks in, Obama is trying to get elected and he is having to answer a lot of questions. Now he has to explain to the American people about the death of American diplomats in Libya and trouble in Egypt. It will not make things easier for him. If anything many ultraconservative Israelis seem not like him and are more interested in seeing him gone. The preview was also released on the 11th anniversary of 9/11.

It seems the director wants to see this get worse, he is adding gasoline to the fire....with statements like "Islam is a cancer" and 100 Jewish people funded my project. I think most Jewish people are smart enough not to put a dime for such a project. And then this is this annoying Coptic activists lawyer who has been attached to the film. He is a disgrace to his people and he is making his life much worse for his peers. He is not helping them. For this reason, more than a 130 Coptic group have spoken out against this film and the activist.

News from this film overshadowed a very important trial in Egypt where the verdict was handed on September 12, 2012. The Arab world most famous comedic actor Adel Imam was cleared of charges that his movies disrespect religions and promote vice. This was a key moment as most entertainers in Egypt watched with interest this big trial. Unfortunately, the film, embassy events and the casualties have been the news.

The movie goes out of its way to insult Islam and the prophet. The film has nothing to say about Islam and rather an assortment of ill informed and vile interpretations of events that taken place 1500 years ago. The crew had the right to make a movie about this, I also have the right to scream fire in a packed movie theater or tell the bus people there's a bomb. This is all free speech, but we all self censor our speech for the betterment of everyone. Aside from the obvious white washing where the cast is largely made out of white actors, this movie has a bad taste and no artistic integrity.

I have said before, the West should not fear weak Muslims nor strong ones, they should only fear those who feel disrespected. It's then when people feel vulnerable and their acts do not always make sense. I hope the film crew are feeling extra excited today as they watch their country men murdered by angry mob upset with a movie they made to advance their lunatic agenda.

On a personal note, a cousin of mine was murdered (and his body was disrespected) by a mob in June 2007 in Gaza. I am not the one to approve of mob justice.

Update: The American patriots should think abut how one Israeli filmmaker is making the world is more dangerous place for Americans. It only takes an idiot to rally up the easily offended religious mobs. Why did he chose America, not Israel as a place to make his vile movie?

The Pious Of Egypt Want To Ban Entertainers "Prostitutes"

Wagdy Ghonim is a moron. He might have some good options and he may as well have some good intentions, but his latest attacks on entertainers is preposterous. The TV preacher is gunning for the entertainers in Egypt. He has issues with people kissing on TV, making out and pretending to be husband and wife.

While, I do agree that some Egyptian movies have nothing to do with entertainment and they are nothing but a sleaze fest. That's no reason for such broad attacks from a guy who things sex is disgusting and intimacy is immoral.  He even does not like tourism. I have a question for him, what other national resources does he have issues with? Such things bring Egypt a lot of money.

The guy watches a lot of movies or it seems--he describes a scene when an actor has a lady's underwear from his pocket. Wagdy hates that and is seems to be mad. I think people like Wagdy and company should attack certain aspects of the entertainment not a broad attacks likes there. I think he can attack people like Al Sabaky who makes dirty movies. But even then, had the people not watched his movies, he would make them no more.

I am seeing a lot of Egyptian entertainers up in arms against such figures and their use of the public ariwaves. While I agree with them, I hate to see the government stepping in to ask Wagdy and others to stop. If the actor has the right to make a movie, the other guy has a right to trash is as well. With one note, no personal attacks on private citizens.

Wael Jassar Teams Up With His Lucky Charm Nabil Khalaf Again

Nabil Khalaf (Nabeel Khalaf) wrote a lot of songs in his career. Among his best work are the lyrics he wrote for Wael Jassar religious album three years ago. They both teamed up again the following year.

This year, they did not release a new album, but rather there's a video for one of their previous collaboration. About a faithful who seeks refuge in Allah, it's a short track of under one minute supplication. In the last 40 seconds you get to see Wael Jassar emerging from a dark corner inside a mosque.

I am one of those people who happen to think Wael Jassar did a great job on those songs, unlike all the others who tried to copy his success (Ihab Tawfik, Reda), none of them sounded as genuine as he does doing such tracks.

The Sheikh Who Listens To Metal Also Wants To Ban Elissa, Haifa, and Nancy

One religious Sheikh took to Twitter to attack some ladies who like to sing and made a career out of entertainment. Meet Fadel Suliman, a preacher who spreads the message of Islam took an interesting turn when he attacked three lead pop stars. (The story can be read here in Arabic)

Mr. Fadel admitted to liking Hard Metal in his youth he would go to concerts to enjoy this kind of heavy metal rock. However Heavy Metal Rock has a crappy name in Arabia as many marry it to devil worshiping. So the sheikh defended heavy metal and argued that going to concert for Elissa, Hiafa, and Nancy Ajram is closer thing to worshiping Satan.

The religious figure disagrees with people who want to ban Heavy Metal like the calls in Egypt now as some calls have been made to cancel concerts at the El Sawy Culture Wheel (more here). He defends his favorite kind of music yet attacks people for going to female concerts. Fadel belongs to the Muslim brotherhood and has made similar calls in the past about certain female singers. He has even doubled down and attacked other Lebanese songstress like Marwa and Nicole Saba.

Fafel Suliman is a Muslim preacher who comes to the United States and talks about Islam, he has authored a number of books on his religion of choice.

Why is making this case now and why is he only picking on entertainers form Lebanon are my questions.

Sherif Abd El Mon'em Living With HIS Mercy This Ramadan

Egyptians are expected to record and released Ramadan songs, they almost have exclusive rights on those songs, with the exception of Wael Jassar do not take interest in doing such songs. So the month is a good time for new singers to release supplication tracks where they can showcase their talent and their vocal ability.

Just like Sherif Abd El Mon'em who released a one and a half track just few days ago. A track about mercy and making it with the love of God and being content what he has endowed us with--and what he has not.

Sherif has the voice to make a singer, the marketing has to work out for him to be able to make another song that would be heard around town.

Beirut Got Religion With Sami Yusuf Concert سامي يوسف في بيروت

This might sound silly a bit when it starts as the British Muslim rocker tries to make music out of his audience in his latest Beirut Appearance. I have no idea that the city of Beirut cared for Sami or his music--sure there are people who are non Muslim who enjoy the cool music Sami Yusuf makes, but his concert in Lebanon was a nice surprise.

Sami is a great musician with a heart of gold, he has made his fame all over the world with his music. His success has lead to the creation of many copy cats, but he remains the guy who did it first and made it possible for all the others to follow.

His concert was packed and the fans do memorize his songs, he has a great sense of humor when he teased the men of Lebanon. He dazzled the concert goers with his music and his persona. Props to Beirut for bringing out Sami to ring in the Muslim Eid.
